CIF State Championships Meet
June 5 and 6, 2015, Buchanan Stadium, Clovis CA

The CIF State Championships meet features preliminary heats/rounds on Friday and finals on Saturday.  Two Rio Hondo League athletes, Monrovia’s Sydney Mosley and South Pasadena’s Esteban Suarez, qualified to compete on CIF’s biggest stage against athletes from across the state.  Mosley, competing in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles, was seeded 3rd going into the meet.  She placed 5th in Finals with a personal best 13.70 seconds after winning her prelims heat in 13.86 seconds.  Suarez, competing in the men’s pole vault, came in seeded 12th.  He almost matched his PR by vaulting 15’ 2” in the prelims on Friday and then came back with a 14’ 9” on Saturday in the Finals - placing 10th in State.  As the fourth placed 11th grader in the vault, Suarez will have his senior year to see how high he can fly.

Mosley and Suarez Qualify For CIF State Meet!

Monrovia’s Sydney Mosley placed second in the Girls’ 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 13.78 seconds, her best ever non-wind aided time.  She is seeded third in the CIF State meet to be held in Clovis on June 5th and 6th.  South Pasadena’s Esteban Suarez improved his personal best by 3 inches to vault 15’ 3” in the Men’s Pole Vault.  This was good for a 4th place finish at Masters and gives him a 12th place seeding in the State meet.  Rio Hondo League athlete performances are provided below, as well as a link to complete Masters meet results.

CIF Finals
May 23, 2015 at Cerritos College
Acebo, Feng, Mosley, Suarez and Tucker Move On to Masters

It was another windy, cool day and, where applicable, many of the results were wind-aided.  Five Rio Hondo League athletes qualified for CIF-SS Masters based on results from the CIF-SS Finals meet held at Cerritos College.  South Pasadena’s Esteban Suarez had a huge PR in the D3 Men’s Pole Vault, soaring to 15’ and making Masters.  The Tigers’ Nina Acebo also had a PR of 18’ 6.25” in the D3 Girls’ Long Jump.  Monrovia’s Sydney Mosley had the top D3 Girls’ time in the 100 Meter Hurdles at 14.09 seconds.  The Wildcats’ Jordyn Tucker continued her late season dominance by winning both the 100 Meter (11.77 seconds) and 200 Meter (23.99 seconds) D3 Girls’ races with PR performances, but showing how tough the other Division performances were, qualified only in the 100 meters race for Masters.  Temple City’s Karlly Feng matched her season best 11’ 6” in the D2 Girls’ pole vault and will also be moving forward to Masters.  Performances for all Rio Hondo athletes at Finals are provided below.

CIF Prelims
May 16, 2015 (locations varied by Division)
Monrovia and South Pasadena Shine in D3

While all athletes from Rio Hondo League deserve credit for reaching CIF competition, it was the ladies from Monrovia and South Pasadena who really shone in the D3 Prelims meet held May 16 at Estancia High.  PrepCalTrack ranked the Monrovia girls 4th and South Pasadena girls 6th overall based on D3 Prelims results.

Monrovia had several top seed results, including: Girls 4 x 100 relay, Sydney Mosley’s 14.55 in the 100M Hurdles (non-wind aided), and Jordyn Tucker taking 1st in both the 100 and 200 meter dash.  Freshman Micah Fulton took second in the girls’ Triple Jump.

South Pasadena had the greatest number of athletes qualify for CIF Finals.  Kate Kutzer had two 3rd seed performances (in the Long Jump and 300M Hurdles).  Esteban Suarez took 3rd in the men’s Pole Vault.

Temple City, La Canada and San Marino each had one athlete qualify for Finals.  A complete list of CIF Finals qualifiers is provided below.
