Host South Pasadena came out on top in all four divisions against both league rival Monrovia and Blair. South Pasadena’s depth was a significant factor in the point totals, particularly in the distance, hurdles and field events. The meet lived up to expectations, with athletes performing well in a competitive environment -- the result being numerous top 10 2016 Rio Hondo marks, especially in the sprints. Kalen Marshall of Blair won both the 200M and 400M. Michael Washington of Monrovia won the 100M, came in 2nd in the 200M by just 1/100th and was on Monrovia’s winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Oliver Chang and Jaehyung Choi of South Pasadena went 1-2 in the 800 and 2-3 in the 1600, with Choi adding more points by taking 3rd in the 3200 as well. On the girls side, the 100M must have been exciting, with Baileigh Akins of Monrovia winning in 13.05, but with three other girls within 3/100ths (good thing automatic timing was used!) South Pasadena’s Elizabeth Bock added points in the 800, 1600 and 3200 by taking 3rd, 1st and 3rd, respectively. Her teammate Kate Kutzer won the 100H, 300H and long jump, and threw in a 2nd in the high jump as well! Tiger Cate Latting won both the high jump and pole vault. The meet shaped up to be a preview of what we can expect in Rio Hondo finals come May. Complete RESULTS are HERE.
