Rio Hondo CIF-Southern Section Prelims qualifiers competed in three CIF Prelims meets on May 4. Temple City was at D-2 competition in Moorpark; La Canada, Monrovia, San Marino and South Pasadena were at the D-3 meet at Estancia HS in Costa Mesa, and Blair was at Carpinteria High School for the D-4 competition. Seventeen individuals and two relay teams qualified to compete in CIF-SS Finals at El Camino College on May 11 (all are from Division 3 schools): In the boys 400 meters, Monrovia’s Keeshonne Robinson (5th, 50.13) qualified; two athletes qualified in the 800M, South Pasadena’s Kai Dettman (1st, 1:57.60) and Monrovia’s Roberto Soto (8th, 1:59.80); and in the 110 meter hurdles Monrovia’s Jasiri Jumal qualified (5th, 15.08). South Pasadena qualified in the 4x400M relay, as the team of Mansano, Mansano, Estrada and Dettman ran a 3:35.98 for 5th. South Pasadena’s Tianhao Wei qualified in both the Long Jump (3rd, 21’ 6”) and in the Triple Jump, (2nd, 45’ 0”). In the pole vault, both Lucas Talin of South Pasadena (1st, 13’ 0”) and David Miketta of La Canada (7th, 13’ 00”) qualified
In the girls competition, two qualified in the 800M -- La Canada’s Ellaney Matarese (3rd, 2:17.32) and South Pas’ Gianna Beasley (6th, 2:18.58); Spartan Sarah Auther qualified in the 3200M by placing 6th overall in 11:14.76; Monrovia’s Delaysia Allen (4th, 15.27) and Inaya Jumal (9th, 15.71) qualified in the 100M hurdles (3rd, 14.65); and Monrovia placed three athletes in the 300M hurdles finals: Inaya Jumal (1st, 45.28), Madeleine Conte (6th, 46.04), and Delaysia Allen (9th, 47.78). South Pasadena qualified in the 4x400 relay - (Segal, Beasley, Hugasian, Taylor - 9th, 4:07.41). Monrovia’s Raneim Gadala qualified in the high jump (7th, 4’ 11”); San Marino’s Avery Page vaulted into the pole vault finals with a 10’ 0” personal best; and South Pasadena’s Ashley Hugasian (5th, 35’ 11”) and Sophia Yamashita (9th, 34’ 9.25”) also qualified in the Triple Jump.
